Minister of Economic Development, Industry and Science of the Arkhangelsk region Evgenia Shelyuk stated that the seaport of Arkhangelsk, having the necessary competencies, can become a key link in the logistics chains of delivering export goods. Together with Roman Chekusov, Director of the Department of International Cooperation and Licensing in Foreign Trade of the Ministry of Industry and Trade of Russia, they visited the Arkhangelsk Seaport to study its capabilities.
Roman Chekusov noted that in the conditions of existing restrictions and changes in the directions of export-import flows, industrial enterprises need special support. He emphasized the need to increase the volume of Russian exports to new markets and to create infrastructure that contributes to this. Important projects in this area are transport and logistics terminals, such as the Arkhangelsk – East Asia route, which can ensure the export of goods.
Evgenia Shelyuk noted that the Arkhangelsk seaport is actively developing its activities not only in the field of coastal shipping along the Northern Sea Route, but also in organizing export shipments to various countries such as China, India, countries in Africa and Turkey.
The General Director of the Arkhangelsk Seaport (AMTP) Zetsen Goryaev announced the terminal’s capabilities and plans to increase cargo turnover, including exports. He noted that cooperation with the Chinese container line and enterprises in the forestry complex is a promising direction for export cargo flows. Regular sea transportation between the port of Arkhangelsk and Chinese ports is also planned to begin in 2024. Furthermore, the Arkhangelsk Seaport is currently handling the transshipment of mineral fertilizers for export.
The Arkhangelsk Seaport is a company specializing in handling various types of cargo, such as general, pulp, containers, lumber, metal, fertilizers, and others. The total area of the territory is 72.5 hectares, the area of the container terminal is 89.9 thousand square meters, and the number of berths is 11.
