Investments of Russian Railways (RZD) in the development of railway infrastructure on the approaches to the ports of the Azov-Black Sea basin in 2024 will amount to 45 billion rubles. This was reported by TASS, citing the press service of RZD.
RZD intends to invest 45 billion rubles in the development of railway infrastructure to the southern ports.
In February, during the address to the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation, the President of the country, Vladimir Putin, stated that Russia will increase the capacity of railways in the southern direction, which will allow for active use of the port capacities of the Azov and Black Seas.
“In the coming years, the implementation of measures on the approaches to the ports of the Azov-Black Sea basin as part of investment projects ‘Development and modernization of railway infrastructure on the approaches to the ports of the Azov-Black Sea basin,’ ‘Construction of the western bypass of the Saratov junction of the Privolzhskaya Railway with the strengthening of the railway section Lipovskiy – Kurdyum,’ ‘Electrification of the Rtishevo – Kochetovka section (specialization for freight traffic)’ is planned. Investments in the amount of 45 billion rubles are allocated for the implementation of these projects in 2024,” the message states.
As clarified by RZD, the project of bypassing the Saratov junction is planned to launch train traffic on the newly built double-track electrified line on the Kurdium – Ivanovsky section by the end of 2025, which will ensure a throughput capacity of up to 131 million tons to the ports of the Azov-Black Sea basin by the end of 2025.
In addition, in order to ensure a throughput capacity of 152 million tons by 2030, it will be necessary to invest about 600 billion rubles in forecast prices in the period from 2025 to 2030 for the railway to the ports of the Azov-Black Sea basin. “Thus, in the next 6 years, the construction of about 450 km of additional main tracks is planned, the completion of the construction of the bypass of the Saratov railway junction, electrification of the Rtishevo – Kochetovka section, development of the Astrakhan II – Kizlyar section, reconstruction of 21 railway stations, including the construction of a new sorting system at the M. Gorky station, and the reconstruction of such large stations as Aksarayskaya II, Salsk, and others,” added RZD.
