The Russian Federation has successfully passed the mandatory international maritime audit conducted by the International Maritime Organization. This was announced by Minister of Transport Roman Starovoit on his Telegram channel.
“Russia has successfully completed the mandatory international maritime audit. A group of specialists from the International Maritime Organization has finished their work and gave a positive assessment of the maritime transport system in our country,” the message says.
Starovoit noted that the auditors studied Russia’s fulfillment of its obligations under six international conventions. “The head of the delegation positively evaluated the databases created by the Russian side, which control vessels sailing under the Russian flag, as well as under the flags of other states,” he added.
Upon completion of the audit, a list of recommendations was developed; however, Starovoit emphasized that they pertain to the improvement of already applied procedures. Three years have been allocated for the enhancement of maritime transport activities.
“The team of the Ministry of Transport of Russia is ready for open interaction and plans to take into account all proposals in the updated Transport Strategy until 2035,” the minister concluded.
Earlier it was reported that a group of auditors from the International Maritime Organization arrived in Russia to study the work of maritime transport and to check Russia’s fulfillment of its obligations under international conventions. It was assumed that the audit would take about one and a half weeks and would be conducted in Moscow and St. Petersburg.
