Fog Blankets Bosphorus: Shipping Halted, Transportation Problems in Istanbul

Visibility in the Bosphorus Strait has significantly deteriorated due to dense fog, leading to a temporary suspension of vessel traffic. According to information provided by NTV channel, citing an official statement from the Turkish Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure, shipping in the strait has been halted in both directions.

The Turkish ministry’s message emphasizes that the reason for the suspension of vessel movement through the Istanbul Strait (as the Bosphorus is known in Turkey) is limited visibility caused by thick fog.

A shroud of fog enveloped Istanbul during the night hours of October 28th and persists to this day, making travel within the city difficult. As a result of the adverse weather conditions, some ferry services have been cancelled. Additionally, delays and cancellations of city public transport routes are possible.

It is worth noting that this is not the first instance of fog causing transportation problems in Turkey. On the previous day, October 27th, the Star newspaper reported heavy fog in Düzce province, which significantly reduced visibility on the Anatolian Highway, leading to a slowdown in vehicle traffic.
